BMW M3 / M4 — F80 / F82 (S55)

A twin-turbo straight-six that rewards discipline and punishes assumptions — especially tuned ones.

S55 3.0 twin-turbo · 7-speed DCT

Engine

— An M engine's oil is a consumable, not a schedule item — track days shorten it further and we log every fill in the record.Book an appointment →

— The S55 eats plugs with boost — on tuned cars they're a consumable, and a fresh set is the cheapest smoothness money buys.Book an appointment →

— The S55's friction-fit crank hub can slip under tuned torque and shift cam timing in one event — on modified cars we verify timing marks at service and recommend the mechanical fix before the tune, not after the tow.Book an appointment →

— Heat soak and soft top-end pulls usually mean the charge-cooler pump is loafing — we test it electrically instead of guessing at boost.Book an appointment →

— Direct injection working this hard carbons on schedule — borescope first, photos always.Book an appointment →

— Same BMW gasket story, higher stakes — a filter-housing leak onto the belt is a bad day on any car and a worse one at 7,000 rpm.

Cooling

— Two circuits, twice the plastic, twice the reason to keep fresh coolant in an M car that sees hard use.Book an appointment →

Transmission

— The DCT's clutches live in their fluid, and launch control is a fluid tax — 40k keeps engagement crisp.Book an appointment →

Drivetrain

— The electronically controlled diff works hardest exactly when you're enjoying the car — fresh oil keeps its clutch pack progressive instead of grabby.Book an appointment →

Brakes

— Track cars get fluid annually and pad/rotor photos every visit — no exceptions.Book an appointment →

Suspension

— An M chassis communicates everything — including one soft bushing. A hands-on bushing check finds it before your lap times do.

Engineering notes

Known issues on this platform

01Any mileage · torque-dependent

Crank hub slip — tuned cars

The friction-fit hub holds fine at stock torque; add a tune and one hard pull can rotate it, shifting cam timing instantly. The pinned or keyed hub is the permanent fix and belongs in the build plan before the tune goes on.

Crank-hub pinning / keyed hub install

0250,000–90,000 mi

Charge-cooler pump fatigue

The air-to-water intercooler's electric pump weakens quietly — heat soak arrives sooner, pulls go soft at the top. An electrical function test at service catches it before the dyno does.

Charge-cooler pump test & replacement

0320,000–30,000 mi cycles

Plug & coil consumption on tuned cars

Boost eats ignition. Misfires under load on a tuned S55 are plugs and coils until proven otherwise — we treat them as consumables and keep the record.

Plug & coil service

0450,000–90,000 mi

Oil filter housing & valve-cover seep

The familiar BMW gasket pair, aged faster by M-car heat cycles. Caught seeping it's routine.

Gasket reseal

— GTS / CS variants and the water-injection system have model-specific items — ask us.

— Every interval above assumes the car gets driven like an M car. Garage queens get an age-based schedule instead — also us.

Intervals reflect factory guidance and Veyra field experience for typical use. Severe service — track, short-trip, extreme climate — shortens them; ask us.
