Porsche 911 Carrera — 991.1 / 991.2

The 911 that ended the old excuses. Ours get the schedule Stuttgart's own literature implies — and then some.

991.1 Carrera / S — 9A1 3.4/3.8 NA · 7-speed manual

Engine

— A flat-six that sees Chicago short trips and the occasional track day gets oil on our schedule, not the lease schedule — and we cut the filter open every time.Book an appointment →

— Porsche's book is honest here — we simply hold to it, and on turbocharged 991.2s we read every electrode for the health of its cylinder.Book an appointment →

— A tired AOS smokes on startup and fouls plugs long before it fails outright — a five-minute crankcase vacuum reading at service settles it.Book an appointment →

— Book interval, held on time — belt failures in a rear engine bay make their own heat problems.

Cooling

— Fresh coolant protects the pumps and the aluminum it lives in — "lifetime" is a warranty word.Book an appointment →

— The 991's nose inhales every leaf and stone on the tollway; corroded, packed radiators are the most preventable expensive repair on this car.Book an appointment →

— Coolant pumps on the 9A1/9A2 weep before they fail — we catch the first trace on inspection, not on the gauge.Book an appointment →

Transmission

— Gear oil is the cheapest synchro repair there is — doubly true behind a 7-speed with a shared-case diff.Book an appointment →

Brakes

— Porsche's book already says two years; a car that sees track days gets it annually, no debate.Book an appointment →

— Cross-drilled rotors get judged for cracking around the holes, not just thickness — numbers and photos, then you decide.

Suspension

— The 991 steers like the ads promise only while its front arms are tight — we load-test them before alignment ever enters the conversation.

Known issues on this platform

0150,000 mi onward · road-salt states sooner

Front radiator & condenser corrosion

Leaves and debris pack behind the front intakes, hold moisture, and eat the radiators and condensers from the outside in. A periodic clean-out costs an hour; the alternative costs a cooling system.

PDK serviced on the "lifetime" myth

Most PDK complaints we see trace to fluid age, not the gearbox. Serviced on our interval it is one of the most durable transmissions ever fitted to a road car.

PDK clutch & gear oil service

0360,000–90,000 mi

Water pump weep

The coolant pump telegraphs with a dried trail long before the level drops. We look for it at every service — proactive replacement is a routine line, not an emergency.

Pump & thermostat replacement

0460,000–110,000 mi

AOS fatigue — startup smoke

A puff of oil smoke on cold start and fouling plugs point at the air-oil separator. The vacuum test is definitive and the fix is known.

991.1 cylinder scoring — rare, but listened for

The 9A1 largely closed the scoring chapter of earlier engines, but we still listen with trained ears and a borescope at major services on high-mile cars — because saying "it's fine" without looking isn't our style.

Borescope inspection at major service

— GT3, Turbo, and GTS-specific schedules differ — ask us for the model-specific chart.

— Track use moves oil, brake fluid, and PDK service to the short end of every window here.

Intervals reflect factory guidance and Veyra field experience for typical use. Severe service — track, short-trip, extreme climate — shortens them; ask us.
